All below classes are scheduled per request and are in a one-on-one setting or up to two people per class at our home studio in Sterling, MA.
Traditional Taxidermy Class
During a one-on-one traditional taxidermy class you can learn to mount an already tanned specimen. We will teach you everything from the importance of hide prep to choosing the right reference photos and ensure you bring home a life-like taxidermy piece.
A traditional taxidermy class for mounting is for one day (8 hours) private class and costs $350 per day. This includes use of all necessary equipment as well as miscellaneous supplies such as hide paste, clay, etc. The class also includes lunch, snacks, and beverages.
You will need to provide your own specimen for mounting as well as the form and eyes needed for the mount. If you are unable to procure these items, we can help you with this. Additional costs will be added for supplies, tanning, shipping, and skins depending on the species.
Example given is for a three-day life-size bobcat class
Day one: Class fee $350 - includes lunch and tanning. You will be expected to bring your own animal, however I am able to source one for you if needed. Pricing for animals depends on what species you are looking for. I can usually source coyotes for free, however bobcats can cost minimum of $100 and up, and a fox can be $50 and up. This pricing is dependent on the market and what is available when you are looking to book the class.
Day two (booked minimally two weeks after day one): Class fee $350 - includes lunch and use of necessary materials to prep your form and skin. For day two you will need to have on hand your form, eyes, ear liners, and habitat which you supply yourself.
Estimated costs for these items are as follows:
Habitat: $50 and up depending on your chosen pose. You can choose a free standing pose without habitat, make your own, or even purchase an item at a local craft store to use. Or you can use a base from the taxidermy companies which range from $50 - $150 and up.
Shipping: $50 and up
Day three: Class fee $350 - includes lunch and use of all materials and tools needed for mounting your bobcat.
A complimentary two-hour long finish work session is included in your class fee. You can book this at your leisure, most mounts take two weeks to dry, so at the minimum that, however you can come whenever you'd like, in a month, in a year, it does not matter to me. Finish work is the final clay and painting to completely finish your taxidermy piece.
If you decide you would rather forego the skinning portion and work on a tanned specimen, you will need to pay for a tanned skin, either through me or a skin from a tannery. Pricing is dependent on what is available and what species you are looking to work on. The typical costs start at $100 and go up from there.
If you would like to do the skinning and tanning but work on a 1/2 life-size or cape/pedestal, you will only need a total of two class days, and the form will be cheaper (typically $30-$60. Other things that can cost extra is if you would like to do an open mouth animal, this is usually an additional $100 or so for those materials.

The first day (skinning & tanning) is minimally two weeks before the mounting days. If you forego the skinning day and are only interested in working on a tanned hide, you can book these two class days back to back, or one at a time. Creating a taxidermy squirrel is great first project for a beginner taxidermist! In this class you’ll be provided with a grey squirrel specimen, form, eyes, and basic habitat. We’ll start by skinning the squirrel and go through the process of dry preserve. From there we’ll use reference photos to ensure a life-like look.

This class costs $200 for a half day. The cost includes the specimen, all mounting materials, and wood plaque. We also include snacks and beverages. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is due up front to reserve your spot.
Novelty classes are booked in small groups. If you are interested in a private one-on-one or private group class, please see below for additional fees.
Classes for Minors
Though all of our classes are geared for students 18+, we do allow responsible young adults ages 13+ with a signed parental consent form. Please note, we do work with scalpels and sharp objects. The class fees for these students are the same as the other classes.
If you have a young child that is interested in taxidermy, we do also allow parent and child classes. In this scenario, the parent would do all of the work that includes any sharp objects. The child could work on the other aspects in the class. These classes do still require the signed parental consent form.
Please reach out to us to inquire about the parent/child class rates. These particular classes are only available at our Sterling, MA home studio. We can accommodate up to four people, or two pairs. There needs to be one parent for each child.
Private Classes & Refund Policy
Private One-on-One & Group Classes
Novelty critter classes and squirrel classes may be requested in a private setting for additional fees.
Weekday private class rate: $50 extra
Weekend private class rate: $100 extra
The rates apply just as a daily extra fee on top of the class fee. The fee is per group. Example, whether the class is one-on-one or a private group of you and two friends, the extra fee is not per person, it is just a daily extra fee.
To avoid the private group fee, please inquire with me to future classes. If you and a friend want to join without a class being "private" we will open the class publicly to fill the additional spots.
Weekend classes are typically booked a few months in advance, while weekday classes you can book fairly quickly.
Refund & Transfer Policy
We do not allow refunds for class fees. If you cannot attend a class please reach out to us as soon as possible. You may use your class fee towards a future class, however you are subject to a $50 transfer fee. We ask that everyone that cannot attend a class please contact us at minimum 72 hours before the class.
We do allow class transfers for an additional $50. Please contact us if you need to transfer for any reason.
If you have any questions regarding the refund policy, please feel free to contact us.
Bring a Buddy
If you are interested in having a friend or loved one attend the class with you but not participate, there are additional fees. The fees range anywhere from $25-$50 per person depending on the class, whether it is a private class, weekday/weekend, and how many additional people. These rates apply to all classes; novelty, squirrel, and traditional. Please email us to inquire.
Please note that if you are looking to work on something as a pair, the classes are generally geared for one person working on the animal at a time. You will always get a better experience working on your own animal.
At this time we only offer classes for mammals. We do not offer classes for birds, fish, or reptiles. We on occasion will offer deer classes in certain circumstances. Perhaps in a year or two we will open our classes to include birds.
Please send us an email if you wish to work on a certain mammal that is not listed.
